Our volunteers
TBI’s programming is made possible by a team of highly motivated and trained youth and adult volunteers. These volunteers serve as teachers, mentors, program coordinators, logistics managers, cooks, drivers, nurses, hall monitors, and in many, many other ways.
Every institute volunteer aged 15+ who works with or is present around minors receives a background check for working with minors. Those who are 18+ go through a formal background check by Sterling Volunteers, a 3rd party background check service. Additionally, they all receive training around the institute’s policy for the protection of minors.
All institute drivers are adults 18+ and have received, in addition to a standard background check, a motor vehicle history check to confirm that they are safe drivers. Any vehicle used to drive minors has all necessary inspections and certificates.
Large institute programs always have on-call or on-site medical volunteers, and there is always someone onsite with first-aid and CPR certifications.
In addition to safety training, institute volunteers who serve as teachers, mentors, or coordinators, all receive comprehensive training and education based on the institute’s educator training curriculum and camp-specific training and preparation before every program.
Anyone is welcome to volunteer with TBI, provided they are able to pass a background check.
